About A.S.D. Computers
A.S.D. Computers was created as S.D. Computer Services in January of 2001 by myself, Brian Smeding, and my wife, Diane Smeding.
Over the previous 15 years I had helped several family members and acquaintances to purchase or build new computer systems. I became greatly discouraged by the hype and 'sales pitches' of most of the local computer retailers, not to mention the outright dishonesty, over-selling, and lack of knowledge of several so-called 'big box' stores. The stories we have gathered from clients are too numerous to mention here, but watch in the future for a link to articles about this type of activity.
After a very serious work-related injury in 1997, I spent the next four years working with Diane deciding what to do for the future. It became very clear by the end of 2000 that my future lay in the I.T. industry. I had been a computer hobbyist for nearly 20 years, and have a deep passion for technology. Diane and I sat down in early 2001 and put together a workable business plan.
Our vision was to create a computer consulting and retail business focusing primarily on on-site services to both consumer and small business clients. Further, our intent was to provide a level of service, honesty and integrity beyond what was available anywhere else. We realized that patience and a 'know your client' philosophy, such as is in the investment sector, was clearly lacking in the retail computer field and set out to rectify that. We vowed to take the time to teach and get to know our clients and to build long term relationships with them. Our goals became not only to create a successful business, but also to foster the growth of a knowledgable client base and to give as much to our local community as we could.
By February of 2001 S.D. Computer Services was operational and I was a fully qualified CompTIA (Computer Technology Industry Association) A+ Certified P.C. Technician. In keeping with the 'giving back to the community' ideology, we started offering our services on a volunteer basis to a large number of local non-profit organizations and churches. Between paying clients and our volunteer endeavors, within months we had a sustainable business and a growing reputation in the community.
Fast forward to 2004, and in October of that year we were presented with the Delta Arts Council's Business of the Year Award, "For Distinction in Promotion & Support of the Arts in Delta." In January of 2005 I was inducted as a member of the Board of Directors of that organization. By the summer of 2005 I was also appointed as a Board Member of the B.C. Special Olympics, Delta Local.
Sadly, Diane never got to see that last honour, as she succumbed to a long battle with cancer in March of 2005. You can find her story here: www.dieinvain.com
In light of my new life without Diane, I changed the name of the business to A.S.D. Computers, naming it after my son, and made a personal committment to maintain all the values that Diane and I had in mind at the beginning. In five years now we've gone from being merely a simple concept of a husband and wife team running a home-based business, to having half a dozen experts in various computer fields doing contract work for us on a fairly regular basis. As well, we've grown from simply selling and repairing computers to providing a broad range of I.T. services to consumers, small and medium sized businesses. We now have a client base extending all across Canada and the United States with new clients coming on board daily, almost always from referrals.
A.S.D. Computers is committed to serving you, our clients and friends, to the best of our ability. We've found our niche and we're here to stay!
Regards,
Brian Smeding

At A.S.D. Computers our mission is to provide honest and reasonably priced information technology services and products to individuals and businesses alike. We hold the following principles and statements in the highest regard. We believe:
- Everyone deserves to understand what they're buying and make an informed purchase.
- Patient explanation and communication of relevant data in YOUR vocabulary, whether you're an I.T. professional or someone's grandmother is key to our success and your satisfaction.
- No one, as a 'big box store' told one of our clients, is "too stupid to own a computer!"
- That the biggest numbers and most expensive items are NOT necessarily what you need or will use.
- Service doesn't end at the door. In order to give the exceptional service that you need, and that we've become known for, we've found that we need to get to know you, to better understand you and your computing needs on a personal level.
At A.S.D. Computers, we are your computer friends!
